Emerging Conductors Fellowship

The Finest City Wind Orchestra & Music Alliance is pleased to announce the inaugural Emerging Conductors Fellowship. This award will be granted to a dynamic band director who exhibits the skills and potential to become an exceptional musical leader in our community.

The recipient will receive the following:

• 10-12 personalized coaching sessions from the FCWO music director. These sessions will address conducting and rehearsal techniques, repertoire selection, score study, observation, and feedback.

• The opportunity to rehearse and conduct a music selection in the final concert of the FCWO’s season. Other rehearsal opportunities may also arise during the season based on the music director’s availability.

An applicant must:

• Be an active director from the San Diego region in their first through tenth year of teaching instrumental music at the time of application.

• Be an active member of the Finest City Wind Orchestra in good standing.

• Complete application materials including:

1. Resume/CV.

2. One-page letter of interest.

3. One letter of recommendation.

4. Video recording of attached conducting excerpt(s), conducted as if an ensemble were present.

• Video recordings can be submitted as private YouTube links.

Applications Due:

• September 30th, 2024.

Applications will be considered by a committee chaired by the FCWO music director, including four additional members from the FCWO board and ensemble. No applicants will serve on this committee. Past winners are encouraged to join the committee.
